Sabbath with Carrie

This weekend I got to go see Carrie. It was amazingly hot considering fall started on Sunday. On Saturday afternoon we went to downtown Nashville to the TN Bicentennial Capitol Mall Park. It was fun walking around and seeing all the unique facts about TN.
Carrie on her way down the stairs from the top view.
The stairs facing up.
Another nice-looking monument.
The sky was pretty and this building did a good job of reflecting the bright blue of the sky.

Another picture like the one on Carrie's blog from when I layed down and took pictures of Carrie next to the mysterious posts.

Some nice flags of TN.

A fort as we were walking attempting to get to the Walking Bridge.

LP Field, home of the Tennessee Titans, who I might add moved to 2-1 tonight as they beat the New Orleans Saints 31-14 in the Saints 1st game of the year in the SuperDome. The loss for the Saints dropped them to 0-3 on the year!

Here is the street where we parked last August at Teacher's Convention to eat at the Spaghetti Factory. It was good memories, but near a rough part of town. For any Boston fans that may read this, you can thank my Toronto Blue Jays for yet another win in New York today vs. the Yankees 4-1 as Toronto earned a 4 game split. Over their last 7 games Toronto has gone 5-2 vs. Boston and New York, I'm a little worried about both teams as they near the play-offs. I wish the weekend could have lasted longer as it was lots of fun.

Wednesday Happenings

Here is a picture of Jesse Litsch, the 22-year old Toronto rookie who picked up the win for the Blue Jays tonight in Toronto's game vs. Boston. The win completed the 3 game sweep for the Blue Jays, in which Toronto outscored Boston 16-5. Unfortunately for the Jays, despite the 3 game sweep, New York also completed a 3 game sweeep of Baltimore to mathematically eliminate Toronto from the wild-card chase. Despite Toronto not making the play-offs since Joe Carter's heroics in 1993, there is a bright future for the Jays with young starting pitchers Shaun Marcum, Dustin McGowan and Jesse Litsch accompanying Roy Halladay and A.J. Burnett in the rotation. And getting B.J. Ryan back next season should really help at closer too. Below the picture is what mlb.com had to say about the game. For you Boston fans who may look at this post, I would rather see Boston win the division than New York. Toronto pays a 4 game visit to Yankee Stadium over the long weekend so Boston can hope for another Toronto sweep.

Series at a glance:
Mon. 09/17: TOR 6, BOS 1
Tue. 09/18: TOR 4, BOS 3
Wed. 09/19: TOR 6, BOS 1
While I was at my computer tonight talking on the phone, I was shocked to find the chair I was sitting in collapse to the floor!! My parents have had the chair for well over 20 years and it HAD 2 metal legs. It had been getting fairly wobbly recently, but I never saw this coming. When I had sat down earlier this evening, it had shifted down a couple of inches, so I sat on the opposite side of the chair to put less stress on it. Then while I was talking to my cousin Jeff on the phone, both legs broke off at the same time and I went crashing to the floor, while bashing my left foot and knee!!

It has been an OK week at school, still problems with the students but not as many it doesn't seem. This Friday afternoon I will be headed for Carrie's for the weekend so I should have some good pictures for another post.

Sunset Rock on September 15

On Sabbath afternoon I went hiking at Sunset Rock with John Locke and John Jones. It was beautiful weather with high temperatures in the upper 70s. On the top of the mountain it felt like around 60 with strong and gusty winds. It was so clear and we could see for miles. My parents met us at the top and we stayed there from 5:15- 6:45 p.m. before hiking back down. After the hike we ate at Taco Bell before going to watch Mr. Bean's Holiday. Today it has been 2 hours of tennis and baseball. Also watching some baseball and football on tv. It has been a fun weekend. Here are the pictures from yesterday.
The last 2 pictures are of Andrew and John playing tennis this morning. Jay also came to play so we had some great rounds of tennis today. Too bad I didn't get any pictures of baseball this afternoon. Well, I'd better get out to the living room to watch the New England vs. Chargers game on Sunday Night Football.

Fire & Boating

I just got the pictures off my parents camera and there are pics. from the apt. before the fire 2 weekends ago on Sabbath afternoon. It was a nice apartment while it lasted.
I'm moving out here and racing to beat the sunset since the water and electricity were both off when I got back. As you can imagine, it was a very hot day.
John J. and John L. were both life-savers as well as Jason & Carson and my parents. I would never have been able to pack everything and move it out in 8 hours without everyone's help. Nate and Heather got to town just as Jason was helping me unhook the trailer from the van!
My room with a few things left scattered around the floor.

Even though the fire may have forced me out, it couldn't touch the Canadian flag that hung proudly in the computer room!!

Back to boating from last night, here I am carving in Wolftever. The water was so calm and the temperature was great, both air and water. It was even a little cold when first starting to ride.

Another jump.

Jaclyn and Carrie in the boat. It's great Carrie is here for her September Homeleave. We are taking a picnic to Chickamauga Dam today for lunch.

We have a picture almost exactly like this one from the summer of '05 of me in the boat and Carrie wakeboarding. A lot has changed since 2 years ago!! Jaclyn got here new bedroom set yesterday before coming out boating. Carrie and I went and played part of the former Pro-Act P.E. majors softball game versus the current ones also after I got out of teaching at Hardy.

Boating at Last!!

Here we are attempting to get the boat going.
Yesterday we finally got back on the water. We got out to the lake just before 7 so we got some pretty sunset pictures. Carrie helped hold up the cover for the engine while my dad sprayed starting fluid in since it had been so long since the boat had been run.
A flashy red boat we saw as we were getting the boat running.
Carrie after her run wakeboarding.
A couple of awesome pictures of sunset from Wolftever Creek.
Yes! The boat is running at last!! Well, the computer won't let me get the pics. off my parents SD card without restarting it, so look for another post of boating yesterday shortly.

Carrie, Nate & Heather come to Collegedale

Last weekend before I discovered the fire I had gone to visit Carrie for Labor Day Weekend. This picture was taken at near the same time the fire was raging in the duplex on Saturday.
Junque Games in the Gym on Saturday night. Carrie is the Sophomore class sponsor this year and her class came in 2nd overall after leading for most of the night.
Nate and Heather came to visit from Monday night through Thursday morning. This is the best picture I got. I didn't get to see much of them as I was in school on both Tuesday and Wednesday. But we did manage to squeeze in a Phillies-Braves game at Turner Field on Tuesday night as the Phillies pulled out the 5-2 win. On Wednesday Nate and Heather went to the Aquarium while I was at school and then came back in the evening to watch baseball on tv and the Beverly Hillbillies movie. Carrie got here Wednesday night for her September Homeleave.
The garage at my parents new house down the street.
The house from the side. It is a great house and they are excited to be moving in in around a month. I will be posting more pictures I took last night on the boat at Wolftever Creek. It was the first time to go boating since Friday, Aug. 3. Dad fixed the boat on Sunday, Sept.2, so we were sure happy to get back to wakeboarding after a long and hot August!!
