Carrie visits Mt. Vernon

A self portrait taken on Sabbath afternoon.
Another post from Mt. Vernon. This was from last April 18-22 when Carrie made her 2nd and final visit of the year. She drove up after taking a personal day. A view of the Arbors where I lived last year.

Sports Central

Sports has always been a huge part of my life as anyone who knows me knows already. I wasn't able to log in to my blog from last March through early June, so I figured to put a few pics. up from the few months in between when I did tons of fun stuff in Ohio. This is at the Kokosing Gap Trail riding the scooter on the train and the jumping from one wood bar to the next.
Riding the rail on the scooter, this was sure tough to keep my balance.
Kevin and Kwaku on my other skateboards and scooters.
In May, the Seniors got to go to Cedar Pointe In Sandusky, OH, because they won the Spring Picnic (even though in reality I think the Freshman class won, there was a huge controversy). This past week I played tennis on Friday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday for a minimum of 2 hours each day and up to 4 hours in a day! Then I also played basketball on Sunday, Monday and Friday. Not to mention teaching P.E. all day at Hardy. I was exhausted and sure did sleep in on Sabbath morning!

I got tons of good pictures at Cedar Pointe, which is rated as the #1 amusement park in the U.S. It has some pretty amazing roller coasters! Some of my relatives have driven down to go to it from Detroit. The week I went to Cedar Pointe was fairly busy. We went on Monday, on Tuesday I took 5 students to the Indians vs. Blue Jays game at Jacobs Field. Then on Wednesday I took 2 students to Game 5 of the Cavaliers vs. the New Jersey Nets in Cleveland, the first live NBA Play-Off game I've been too. What a great week, and it seems like a school activity or Varsity baseball game or practice happened on Sunday.Another great coaster.A self-portrait in the sunny day with temps. in the upper 60s or low 70s, beautiful for mid-May.
Another sweet roller coaster. Will, Josh, Kwaku, Kevin and half of the 5th student in the stands early in the game.It was a beautiful evening for baseball and a great atmoshpere as always at Jacobs Field, where I saw 5 games live last year. The Q, home of the Cavs. is right next door and I also got to see LeBron and the Cavs. 4 games there live as well as one pre-season in Columbus at the home of the Columbus Blue Jackets ot the NHL last October.Another great picture of our seats, barely up from the line down the left field line, even though we only paid $10 each. We actually moved even closer into the infield later in the game.
Some great seats by the end. In the background you can see the Q, home of the Cavs.Another close up shot, actually this is a little blurry it was so close.
Another view from our seats at the end with no zoom, we were about 5 rows up from first base. I'm headed for more tennis now and then probably racquetball as well as watching the end of the Predators and Red Wings. They're tied at 0 going into the 3rd period. After watching 2 games in Nashville the last few weeks I've gotten right into watching them when I can. If I have time, I'll try to update a few more posts on all the things I did in the 2 months in Mt. Vernon when I couldn't figure out how to blog!

Son Rise

Carrie finally got to see her first Son Rise this year! David J. at his usual post behind Spalding at the Leper Colony.
Bob B. doing his wood working.
Carrie tries to hide from the camera!
Dan and Kelly, Jason and Carson's sister, at a booth on the Promenade.

The Last Supper by the Student Center.Carrie watches the Last Supper with the new Kelly's Memorial Garden. Pilot washes his hands clean of Jesus blood infront of Wright Hall. The procession heading to the crucifixion.
Jaclyn, Carrie, Dad and Mom watch the scene at Wright Hall. The crucifixion scene on the hill by the tennis courts. They were testing the sound system and practicing for this on Friday afternoon while I was playing tennis with Andrew, Jonathan M. and Eric B.The new Gymnastics Center is sure pretty amazing. Their Home Show last night was great! Now who could this be? Carson and Luamie take in the final scenes of Son Rise.
Carlson and Ryan in their get-up they had to wear all day for the Resurrection scene! Ryan almost speared a lady who was texting on her cell phone as he ran down the isle at the end of the scene! Luckily for her she looked up just in time to dodge out of the way!Jaclyn joins the guys.Adam came over for lunch on Sabbath along with Carrie, Jaclyn and Stephanie! It was fun having everyone over. We even got outside to play some catch later in the afternoon for the first time in this new house. This past week has been one of my most sports-packed weeks ever as I will tell more about in a blog post I'll be putting up later today! Enjoy the March Madness as it's wrapping up and keep Nate in your prayers as he is serving in Iraq right now while his wife is left here in NY without him.

100th Post

I took the last week of my Spring Break at Highland. I got there on Thursday afternoon and we turned around and headed for the Sommet Center in Nashville. We saw the Los Angeles Kings, the team with the worst record in the Western Conference, beat the Predators 4-1!! In this picture Carrie and her Grandpa Rilea walk back toward Carrie's office after the tour of her place.
On Monday night, I got to play on Carrie's intramural hockey team. Can you believe they made Carrie play goalie with a team full of guys? She wouldn't let me do it but actually came away without any injuries and made some great saves!
On Saturday night we headed over to the gym for the KY-TN Music Festival final Performance. Then on Sunday we shopped the afternoon at Opry Mills after Carrie's 5 1/2 hour Strategic Planning meeting Sunday morning/ afternoon. As you can see here, Wednesday we had 2-4 inches of rain fall! There was some flooding in Carrie's basement. This is her backyard.
I managed to get out during the week while Carrie was at work and get in 3 different serve practices. When I played yesterday afternoon in Collegedale, my serves seemed to be improving! Hopefully soon Carrie and I will get to play tennis and she can try out her birthday present.

As well as the game on Thursday, March 13, we also got to go a week later on Thursday, March 20, to see the team with the best record in the NHL, the Detroit Red Wings, beat Nashville 6-3. The second game was a sellout and was very intense and a good time! Just accross the street from the Sommet Center, home of the Nashville Predators.A view of the crowd and the arena from the ice before the Red Wings game on the 20th.The Zamboni's made their rounds between the 1st and 2nd periods.
A view from our seats.A giant sabre-toothed tiger flying through the arena during one of the intermissions.Next to the ice after the game on the 13th.One of the many fights we saw during the 2 games. I stayed at Highland for 8 days and had a great time with Carrie in the evenings. We also got out to see a movie on Tuesday and ate supper out with Chadd and Nickie on Wednesday. I also got to watch tons of recorded and live NBA basketball! Carrie got to Collegedale for the weekend about 6 hours after I got back. She finally got to see Son Rise today for the first time!
