Toronto Trip Canada Day '07

We had not been back to Toronto and Oshawa, Ontario, for 2 1/2 years, which was the longest time since we moved away in July of '93. It was a fun trip as we went mainly to see Monica's wedding on Canada Day. We also got to see Curtis's and Jo-Anne and tons of other long-lost friends. The picture above is accross the way from downtown Toronto as you can see the CN Tower and the Sky Dome.
The gym of Crawford Adventist Academy in Toronto.
Mom with the CN Tower in the background.
The ACC, home of the Toronto Raptors and Toronto Maple Leafs and right down the road from the Sky Dome, home of the Blue Jays. I have only attended one live Raptors game in Toronto. It was on Sunday, December 19, 2004, agains the New Jersey Nets. The Raptors won 110-99.
The Sky Dome, where we have seen over 15 live Jays games over the years, including the World Series celebration in '92 after they finished off Atlanta in 6 games on Dave Winfield's double down the left field line at Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta.

Everyone on the ride from Toronto to Centre Island, where we took so many fun biking trips over the years in Oshawa.A view of the Toronto skyline from the boat headed over to Centre Island. The sign that greeted us as we got to the island.A nice donkey that we had fun talking to and taking photos of. We had a great time with the geese, chickens, and especially the peacocks (I'm not sure how to spell that).

Another picture from accross the bay from downtown Toronto on a beautiful day with a high of 19 C. Don't forget that this was in early July, where temps. in the upper 60s for a high are only a dream in Collegedale that is still 4 months away.On Sabbath afternoon we visited the Hornacheck's who we had many good times with growing up playing sports and in the sand box, with cars... with their boys.Another favorite spot when we lived in Oshawa, here we are taking a picnic to Lake Ontario, about a 10 minute drive from Kingsway. At the wedding on Canada Day for Monica, Dave gives a genuine smile. The Curtis's have grown up fast, too bad I didn't get a clearer picture, but you can still see that the boys have changed a lot from when we were little.
After our trip to Oshawa and Toronto, we came to Plymouth, MI, for a few days and had fun with all the cousins and grandpa and grandma.Rob got us more free tickets to see the Tigers on July 5, and this year they played the Cleveland Indians. I was definitely rooting for Cleveland after living a year in Mt. Vernon and seeing them play live 5 times, but unfortunately Detroit took a 12-3 win. The cousins in the pool at the Johnson's house for a July 4th barbecue.Trot Nixon looks to the mound waiting for Justin Verlander's offering to "Pudge Rodriguez." Verlander was opposing Cleveland starter C.C. Sabbathia, which was said to be a duel to see who would start the All-Star game in a few days.A view of the left field score board in Detroit at Comerica Park. We sat about 12 rows up from the field down the 3rd base line, similar seats to where we sat on June 1, 2006, when the Tigers took down the Yankees 7-6 on a walk-off hit after trailing 6-0 early. It was a great trip as we also saw Niagara Falls at the beginning, where I flew into to meet my parents after spending time with Carrie waiting to hear back from S.W.A.U. about their Intramural Director position. My parents had been in PA with Grandma and Coleman a few days before Oshawa. After Oshawa, Toronto, and Plymouth, I flew from Detroit to Orlando to interview at Orlando Junior Academy. I ended up being the 2nd choice at Southwestern and was offered the job at O.J.A. 2 times but decided it was not a good choice. What a fun summer and now finally it has cooled off for fall.

What great memories of that trip together back to Oshawa. I remember how sultry it was at that Detroit ballgame too - ugh! (I like THIS weather so much better, cool and clear.) Those "walk down memory lane" vacations are great fun. I'm so glad you came along.
